Silver Fox
The Silver Fox breed was close to extinction in the 1970's, so close that they were listed under the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy as an endangered heritage breed. That decline was a shame, because these bunnies were the third rabbit exclusively developed in the United States. They are a multi-purpose breed, meaning they are bred for meat and for fur. They were first recognized as a breed in 1925, with a black and blue variety. So far, the blue variety is unapproved but breeders are working on re-introducing the blue variety back into the ARBA standard. A chocolate variety is also in the works. The Silver Fox breed are gentle giants with calm, sweet temperaments. If you are interested in trying out a new breed, please consider them! If you would like more information, please contact the National Silver Fox Rabbit Club or a local breeder. Also, Jo Mladjenovich introduced us to our first Fox, and she is a great person to talk Silver Fox to!
Our Breeding Goals for our Silver Foxes
1. Breed to the ARBA standard for the Silver Fox rabbit

3. Develop heavy bone
4. Develop a coat that has correct length and even silvering

GC Funck's Achilles (7 legs)
GC Funck's Leonidas X Wilson's Minerva
Born in 2009, Achilles was the most successful son of our superstar Leonidas, who was out of Hillsides Titan, the 3rd generation of Quarry Ridge Buck Champions. Achilles was known as a well-balanced buck with "solid" type and a "very good" coat. His lengthy coat had the most density of all our previous bucks. His bloodlines included Hillside, Wilson, and Mladjenovich rabbits. Long Live Achilles, my all-time favorite.
GC Funck's Von (13 legs)
Stonecrest's Roberto x Funck's Osprey
What to say about old man Von? He was the accumulation of several different genetic lines, including Stonecrest, Funck (of course) and MoRare from down in Missouri. Von was always keen on going to the show, and pouted for days if he didn't get to tag along. He delayed his impending retirement longer than any other buck in the history of the rabbitry, partially because of his willingness to compete but mostly because of his ability to stay in condition. His main claim to fame other than his physicality was his large frame--he made senior weight at the tender age of 4 months!
*All progeny of Von have the potential to carry the chocolate gene from his ancestor, MoRare's Radar, who had one chocolate grandsire in his pedigree. This is the ONLY chocolate rabbit in the background of any Funck rabbit.
GC Funck's Pierce (13 legs)
GC Miss Maggie's Desmond x GC Funck's Intrigue
Best of the Best at the 2015 Silver Fox Nationals (Best Intermediate, Best of Breed, Best of all Winners), a Best 6 Class winner, and Reserve in Show winner, Pierce was the first Funck rabbit to really combine all the genetics of previous generations in an extremely successful way. All of his characteristics were near perfect--body type, fur, bone, temperament. Unfortunately, he only sired one or two litters before succumbing to an unknown ailment, but those limited offspring have done wonders thus far.
GC Funck's Idan (6 legs)
Funck's Antonius x Funck's Petra
The Best Opposite of Sex and Best Fur winner at the 2017 Silver Fox Nationals, Idan maintained his type throughout the summer and won awards as a senior buck the following fall. He also proved to be a good stud buck, siring Best in Show winner Legacy when crossed to our super doe, Eton.
Funck's Endeavor (2 legs)
SBS Gunner x GC Funck's Bristol
Endeavor was the big buck of Spring 2018, sweeping the Greensboro Silver Fox Nationals with BOB, Best Fur, and Best of the Best titles under Judge Josh Humphries. Endeavor is by far the heaviest boned buck produced by Quarry Ridge, which has made him a favorite of many judges. Everyone loves a beefy bunny!
GC Funck's Chrome (11 legs) GC Funck's Edge x Funck's Stellar Chrome is a genetic continuation of superior fur density, texture, and length, which earned him multiple show wins up and down the east coast during his show seasons. The flaw that kept him from RIS and BIS, was his slightly pinched hindquarters. Luckily, thus far, his offspring have carried his coat and not his faults. He's a massive buck with an affectionate personality! |
GC Funck's Midori (8 legs)
GC Funck's Chrome x Cute Buns Kimona
The Fur Beast of the East and son of the mighty Chrome, Midori won Reserve in Show a whopping three times before entering semi-retirement as a stud buck. He spends the majority of his time now happily servicing our does and producing top grade kits in the barn, the majority of which possess his trademark husky-like fur.
GC Funck's Ray of Light (22 legs)
GC Funck's Chrome x GC Lauren's Eclipse
Ray accomplished something that generations of Quarry Ridge Silver Fox failed to achieve before him--secure a Best title at an ARBA National Convention. The old boy did just that, winning Best Opposite of Sex and getting quite the nod at the Best of the Best judging the following day. In addition to his Convention success, Ray's accolades include a Best of Breed at the 2018 PASRBA, a Reserve in Show title, and was the Best of Breed rabbit for the 2019 Silver Fox National. He also has the highest leg count thus far of any QR rabbit.
***Ray is now officially retired....(or is he?!?!?)
GC Funck's Jameson (8 legs)
GC Funck's Midori x Funck's Olympia
Never one to pose well when the camera is on him, Jameson proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with at the 2019 NCRBA Spring Convention, winning BOB and BOS twice during the weekend. He definitely inherited his sire's trademark fur, but has improved body type thanks to the cross to Olympia.

Funck's GC Virginia Dare (3 legs)
Funck's Caesar x Funck's Osprey
The first QR rabbit to win a Reserve in Show award back in 2015, Virginia Dare was a monster of a doe. Her size and type never failed to impress on the show tables. She was retired early, to focus on passing on her attributes to the next generation.

GC Funck's Jordan (5 legs)
GC Miss Maggie's Desmond x GC Funck's Elysia
In early 2016, Jordan became the second of the Quarry Ridge does to take a Reserve in Show title. Selected by Judge Eric Stewart, he praised her as having the "best Silver Fox fur" that he'd ever felt.
GC Funck's Harper (5 legs)
GC Funck's Pierce x Funck's Georgia
The Grandma of the barn, Funck's Harper, was one of the few kits ever produced from the 2015 BOB Silver Fox Nationals winner, Funck's Pierce and from a doe out of Funck's Von. This combination of genes has led to the rabbitry's Best in Show does--both Eton and Legacy hail directly from Harper. Though her show days are long behind her, (and I never got a decent picture of her posed!) Harper continues to enjoy motherhood and is still producing champions.

GC Funck's Eton (4 legs)
GC Lakeview Gordan Jason x GC Funck's Harper
The famous "picture" doe, Eton was quickly retired to a new career as a mother after winning Quarry Ridge's first Best in Show title. She is a first generation cross between Stephanie Boeder's Convention winning buck and Funck's Harper, a doe who has been producing champion after champion. Still, Eton's success was a big surprise, given that first generation crosses rarely produce good show bunnies. So far, Eton has replicated herself in her offspring--bone, type, and fur to spare.
GC Funck's Legacy (5 legs)
GC Funck's Idan x GC Funck's Eton
Hailing from Eton's first litter, Legacy quickly established herself as being the best of the crop by winning the barn's second Best in Show title as a junior doe on her second time out on the tables. Like mother, like daughter! Her coat was not in top shape for the 2018 ARBA Convention. Nevertheless, she came in second to the eventual BOB winning Junior doe.
Funck's Yuko (1 leg)
GC Funck's Midori x Funck's Matilda
Yuko's purpose in life is to be the mother of champions, and she's definitely on her way considering in her first litter, one of the kits won BOS on their first showing at 10 weeks old! She is extremely dense, with thick bone and beautiful, even silvering throughout her entire coat. She's also the sweetest doe in the barn at the moment, and so far that's being passed along to her offspring as well.

GC Funck's Somme (8 legs)
Funck's Sherman x GC Funck's Harper
Somme was narrowly defeated for a BOB title at the 2018 ARBA Convention in Boston, but did ultimately win the coveted Best Fur title for her dense, textured coat. She is the half sister of Funck's Eton, out of Funck's Harper, the best producing brood doe in the barn at the moment. She's now retired and starting her breeding career.

Funck's Babe (2 legs)
GC Funck's Chrome x Funck's Illusion
Babe was so beautiful as a junior, she was never brought out of the barn for fear of risking her health at a show. She went right into motherhood, and after producing a litter full of potential champions, she was brought to the 2019 NCRBA to help fill the senior doe class--and ended up winning Show A under Judge Ruth Ann Bell. At the 2019 Silver Fox Nationals in Kansas, she was chosen as the Best Senior Doe and went on to win Best Fur, claiming the title for Quarry Ridge Rabbitry for the forth consecutive year..

GC Funck's Madeira (5 legs)
GC Funck's Midori x GC Funck's Harper
The Best Fur doe at the Kansas RCBA Specialty during the 2019 Silver Fox Nationals weekend in Hutchinson, Madeira is a great combination of Midori fur and Harper's type. As she ages, she's maturing into a quality doe with sharp silvering and a dense coat that makes her super competitive on the show tables. It's also noteworthy to mention that she's made senior weight as a 6 1/2 month old!
